While I enjoy many aspects of teaching English, one of my favorite parts of the experience is discovering the many vagaries of this language which I thought I knew so well. For instance, did you know that you can’t use the modifier “less” with words comprised of fewer than two syllables (i.e.: not with one syllable adjectives)? Strange but true!

I can’t say “This is less true than that is”?

Hum… I guess you can.
That’s the other thing I’ve noticed about teaching English… the second you tell someone “This is a rule and we do it like this ALL THE TIME,” someone invariably finds the exception seconds later!
